We invite you to participate in the international creative contest «From Hansa to Hansa: view of young»!
The main library of the region of the 39th International Hanseatic days of New times - the Pskov regional universal scientific library (Russia) - invites children and teenagers aged 12-17 years to present a versatile image of the Hansa through drawings and compositions to them.
For this purpose, an international creative contest «From Hansa to Hansa: view of young», is being organized and is timed to the 39th International Hanseatic days of New times, which Pskov (Russia) will hold on 27-30 June, 2019.
The project partners are the Pskov regional universal scientific library (Russian Federation), the Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Pskov and the Pskov office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Estonia in St. Petersburg.
The project invites students of secondary schools, pupils of art schools and children's art schools, as well as members of children's creative associations operating on the basis of libraries of the cities that were a part of the Hanseatic Union of the old time or actively involved in the Hanseatic Union of the New time.
The contest aims to bring together residents of the border areas of Latvia, Belarus and the Pskov region by involving of the young generation in the process of artistic creation. A special place is given to the partner cities of Pskov, members of the Hansa Union of the old time, or actively participating in the Hanseatic days of the New time. Young readers and residents of Pskov and Porkhov (Russia), Polotsk and Vitebsk (Belarus), Neuss (Germany), «Hanseatic» and border towns of Latvia (Balvi, Valmiera, Koknese, Kuldiga, Limbazi, Riga, Straupe, Cesis) and Estonia (Viljandi, Pärnu, Tallinn, Tartu) are invited to participate.
What is to be painted? Household scenes of the historical period of the 13th-16th centuries, ships and merchant ships of that time, medieval trade, images of merchants and people in costumes of the corresponding era of the country, connecting associations on the theme of the international cultural and economic community within the Hansa Union. The image should carry recognizable elements of the city (country). Each drawing is accompanied by a composition (no more than a half A4 page) which reflects the content of the drawing or its perception. The composition may not be performed by the painter himself, but the age of the author of the text should not exceed 12 – 17 years.
Where to be seen? The result of the competition will be an exhibition that begins its exposure in the framework of the international Day of the Hansa, May 20, 2019 in Pskov, and after a month it can be transferred to the exhibition on the territory of any country participating in the competition.
The result of the project will also be a release of a colorful publication, which will reflect the drawings and works of the finalists, as well as sketches of the participating cities and libraries – partners of the project.
What is the project duration? The contest is held in 3 stages during January-April 2019.
Stage 1:January 1 - March 31, 2019. Participants submit to the national jury of their partner city (central city library) a drawing and an essay in their native language (as well as a copy of the work translated into English or Russian). Of all the works the top 3 in the category «A Picture» and «An Essay on the topic of the Picture» will be selected.
Stage 3: until April 25, 2019 (inclusive) the original drawings and essays should be sent by registered mail to the address: 180004, Russian Federation, Pskov, Vokzalnaya str., 48 (entrance from the yard), Pskov regional universal scientific library, the organizing Committee of the contest ««From Hansa to Hansa: view of young» - on paper.
Clarification: the City is a partner may represent from 1 to 3 operations without holding a special contest.
Requirements for drawings: the size of the painting should be placed in A4 (210 x 297 mm) or A3 (297 x 420 mm); the technique of performing the artistic work is not limited to (oil painting, pencil drawing, watercolor, pastel, gouache, ink, markers, etc.).
Requirements for essays: the text is provided in the format of Word (font Times New Roman, size 12, single line spacing), in the national (as well as Russian or English) languages.
Requirements for a digitized copy of the picture: format-jpeg, file size - up to 2 megabytes, but not less than 800 pixels vertically and 1200 pixels horizontally.
Works (drawing, essay) are accompanied by information about the author: surname, name of the artist / author of the essay; age; name of the work; status (student) indicating the class and name (number) of the institution; e-mail address and contact phone number; surname, name of one of the parents to communicate with the Organizing committee of the contest.
