I believe that Cyrus Smith can be considered a positive character in Jules Verne's novel The Mysterious Island.Cyrus Smith is also a man with high moral qualities characteristic of the main characters of Verne. He is selfless, noble, honest, brave and immensely loyal to his comrades. In civilian life, a scientist, during the Civil War in the United States — a railroad engineer and an officer in the army of the Northerners. He has a significant household and scientific and technological knowledge, is an excellent literary example of an engineer of the XIX century. His practical knowledge of physics, chemistry, botany, navigation and many other fields allow the unwitting colonists of the newly named Lincoln Island to quickly create a thriving mini-civilization in isolation from the rest of the world.
