Rue Pierre-le-Grand is a street in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. It was named in honor of Tsar Peter I of Russia, due to the proximity of St. Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral.
As for Peter himself, he reached France on 21 April 1717 and stayed until 21 June. He travelled to Versailles on two occasions, went to the Academy of Sciences, of which he became an honorary member, the Observatory, and the National Mint, where a medal was struck in his honour.
During the two months he spent in Paris, his visits and discussions with the French influenced his thinking and shifted the direction of the reform works he had initiated in Saint Petersburg in 1703.
