According to the legend, Peter I planted a mulberry tree in Sayes Court park as a way of apologizing for the damage inflicted on the manor. In 2018, a commemorative stone by the sculptor Alexander Kirilin appeared next to it. The monument depicts an open book out of black granite with rock inclusions.

The inscription in Russian and English says “This mulberry tree is believed to have been planted in John Evelyn’s garden in 1698 by Russian Tsar Peter I the Great who stayed in Sayes Court during his trip to England as part of the “Grand Embassy”.
