The city begins its biography with the village of Tolmachevo, which was developed with the construction of a railway bridge over the Ob River in 1893 - 1897.
The city of Ob is connected to Novosibirsk by two roads: railway and automobile.
The main attraction of our city is Tolmachevo Airport - «Air Berth of Siberia».
The city has a great potential and if you believe the strategy of socio-economic development until 2030, which was presented to the Ob residents, then in the foreseeable future the city of Ob will become the center of Aerocity. Its borders will include part of Novosibirsk, the villages of Tolmachevo, Chika, the entire city of Ob and Krivodanovka. Aeropolis will be an independent and attractive place to live. With equipped squares, parks and organized transport accessibility.
In 1936, the village of Tolmachevo housed the military aviation school of pilots of the Red Army Air Force, which trained specialists for both civil and military aviation. The emergence of Tolmachev airport on the basis of a military airfield is associated with the equipping of civil aviation of the USSR with Tu – 104 jetliners.

For the first time on July 12, 1957, the crew of TU-104 flight 020 went from Tolmachevo airport to Moscow, with an intermediate landing in Sverdlovsk, with 50 passengers on board.
In September 1992, Tolmachevo acquired the status of an international airport.
In 2004 – 2009, a large-scale reconstruction of Tolmachevo terminals was carried out. On September 25, 2010, runway-2 was put into operation, certified according to ICAO Category II, which can accept any type of aircraft in difficult weather conditions.
In Tolmachevo, the world's first monument to the Tu-154 — the most massive domestic medium-haul airliner-was opened.
For 60 years, the airport has gone from a military airfield to the largest air transport hub of federal significance.
The airport lobby has become not only a waiting room, but also a place for performances of famous artists and the organization of exhibitions and expositions.

Square «Zvezdochka». This square is the history of the city. 75 years ago, cadets of the Siberian Military Aviation School planted fir trees in the form of a five-pointed star in the military town of Ob, in memory of those who heroically fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. So a small square was formed, which all the residents called «Asterisk».
In 2010, thanks to the initiative of the «Women's Council», the second birth of the square took place. The territory was landscaped, cleared of dead wood, and on September 23, a solemn rally was held to mark the opening of the Zvezda memorial complex in the Zvezdochka Square.

Monument «To the Courage of aviators». On the Palace Square, on the eve of the celebration of the Day of the Air Fleet of the Russian Federation, a granite monument to the «Courage of Aviators» was opened. After the tragic events when a passenger plane was shot down by a Ukrainian missile during the flight from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk over the Black Sea, the crew members of the Tu 154 were originally from our city and the idea arose to erect a monument to the fallen pilots. Later, it was decided that the monument should perpetuate the courage of all pilots.
There are streets in the city named after the heroes who connected their lives with aviation: Chkalov, Pokryshkin, Baidukov, Titov. And, also, streets whose names are somehow connected with aviation and the airport: aviation, airport housing and utilities, port
Interesting facts about the city of Ob.
On February 18, 1978, the Tu-154A was being prepared for another flight, and one of the technicians, heating the cabin, left the heater unattended. «The rag left in front of the heater with the air flow got into the heater, caught fire and was thrown into the cabin through the sleeve. The resulting fire was discovered late, when measures to eliminate it were unsuccessful», - so the incident is reflected in the departmental archive of the airport and the documents of the State Archive of the Novosibirsk region. On board 85087, the upper part of the fuselage burned out, and it suddenly turned from a liner into a «spare parts warehouse» - even for testing at the branch research institute (now SibNIA-ed.) not good enough. After all the equipment was removed from the plane, it was cut. It would seem that here it is, death with subsequent melting. But the story of the unlucky board suddenly continued. At the same time, on the other side of the country, director Alexander Mitta decided to shoot the first disaster film in the history of the USSR-about aviation. By the way,
How many times have I not seen you,
And how many times would I not watch you,
Head up, holding your breath -
Everything is not enough for me, immeasurable little.
Your proud profile and wingspan,
Chassis that are about to touch the ground,
Your lights, shimmering and beckoning,
My quiet world will be invaded by accident.
And a loud roar from your turbines,
What will sweep everything in its path,
My peace is disturbed to the depths,
And the heart of delight quietly melts.
Years pass, generations change, but the noise of the aircraft will remain familiar and relatives more than one generation of Obcan …
Thanks for Your attention!
