The house where an important guest stayed in 1706 originally belonged to the Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa. Over three centuries, the building has been rebuilt several times and used for various purposes: there was an isolation ward for rowdies and drunkards, a parish school, barracks and even an orphanage.
Today this building is a popular museum, built in the style of Ukrainian Baroque, with an interior of the 19th century, and the House of Peter I itself is a branch of the Museum of the History of Kiev.
