“Monument of Glory of Battle of Poltava”

“Monument of Glory of Battle of Poltava” is the main symbol of Poltava. It is situated in the central part of Poltava, in a beautiful park at Circus Square: historical place where the meeting of Poltava residents with the Russian army, led by Peter I, was held after the Battle of Poltava.

The idea of construction belonged to Poltava residents (Governor-General Alexei Kurakin and architect Mikhail Amvrosimov), and the monument was finalized by famous Russian architect (Thoma de Tomon) and sculptors (Theodosius Shchedrin and Ivan Martos). Official opening of the monument was on 27th of June 1811.
