The statue “Peter I is studying shipwrights in Zaandam”

The statue “Peter I is studying shipwrights in Zaandam” was executed by sculptor Leopold Bernstam. In 1911, England presented a copy of the sculpture to Zaandam, where at the end of the XVII century Peter I worked as a carpenter at the shipyard.

It was put on the central square of the city, and it still stands there, unlike its original in St. Petersburg: in the Soviet era, the statue was melted down, and in 1996, ironically, it was the Netherlands that presented a copy of its monument to St. Petersburg.
